Planning is So Boring (said the broke salesperson)

Until you have clarity on your daily and weekly activities, generated as a result of a defined sales plan, you’re just winging it. And, you’re wasting precious hours every week that could be used to prospect, build your funnel, and create more customer contact. If you think about it, that may be the biggest loss in failing to plan – the time you lose as a result of indecision or filling time while you wait for the next customer emergency. But not to worry. Your competitors are probably in the same boat. You hope.

Reinventing Reality & other failure tactics

Immutable means “not subject to change,” which means that results have always been, and will always be, the barometer of success in business. Not those things you intended to do, or hoped to do, but what you actually accomplished. Those results may not be only financial, of course, but the principle holds. Success in not promises of performance. Not excuses for a lack of performance. It is performance. Period. The problem is that so many salespeople want to reinvent reality.

Goal-Setting: A Number Is Not a Strategy

Goal-setting gets a whole lot of attention this time of year. Personally and professionally: Companies create new revenue objectives; individuals resolve to lose weight. If nothing else, the New Year is a time to initiate change, raise the bar, create new challenges, make things happen. You get the idea. Companies decide they need to increase sales. Develop new marketing plans. Introduce new product lines. Open new locations. Individuals want to lose weight. Get in shape. Start a new hobby. Work on the house.
